Recess and Outdoor Play Protocol
Our students will participate in outdoor recess and activities as much as possible throughout the entire year except during extreme hot or cold temperatures. When inclement weather is expected, we will monitor temperatures to determine if students will be allowed outside for recess or other outdoor activities.

Ashland Preschool
Ashland Preschool uses the guideline of “Feels like temperature of 20 degrees or warmer” and takes the wind-chill into consideration if it's a breezy day to determine if we will have indoor or outdoor recess. The temperature can change throughout the day, so we ask staff to monitor it around their recess times using The Weather Channel (weather information on most iPhones or www.weather.com).
During the winter, please send your children in layers as well as outdoor clothing on a consistent basis. This includes sweatshirts, a warm winter coat, hat, mittens/gloves. When there is snow on the ground, students need boots and snow pants to play in the snowy areas. If they don't have these items, they will stay on the pavement.
If your child is in need of winter clothes, please contact Ashland Preschool for support.

Warren Elementary School
If the temperature, including the wind chill/feels like temperature, is below 20 °F, students will not go outside for recess.
In the presence of snow, students with boots and snow pants are allowed to play in the snow, while those without both boots and snow pants will play on the hardtop during recess.
