Meet the Ashland School Committee

Laurie Tosti, Chair
Posted by:Laurie has been a member of the Ashland School Committee since 2011, serving as chair since 2013. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Boston University School of Law. She practiced law for many years and was previously the director of volunteer services for MetroWest Hospice. Laurie and her husband Rob raised four children in Ashland, who all graduated from Ashland High School. Laurie is a recipient of the 2018 MASC All-State Committee award.

Tina Fitanides, Secretary
Posted by:Tina Fitanides has lived in Ashland for 20 years with her husband and two children and has served on the Ashland School Committee since 2021. Her children attend Ashland Public Schools, and she has been an active volunteer in the school system, serving on various site councils and volunteering with the PTO, AEFI, Clocker Club and the Ashland Music Association. Tina is a Special Education Attorney with more than 15 years of experience helping families with children with special needs. She counsels and represents parents as they navigate the special education process with a goal of ensuring students receive the services and support they are entitled to. She works with families through all aspects of the special education process, including mediation, litigation at the Bureau of Special Education Appeals and settlement negotiation.

School Committee Responsibilities
In accordance with Massachusetts general law, the school committee in each city and town and each regional school district shall have the power to select and to terminate the superintendent, shall review and approve budgets for public education in the district, and shall establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district consistent with the requirements of law and statewide goals and standards established by the board of education. The school committee in each city, town and regional school district may select a superintendent jointly with other school committees and the superintendent shall serve as the superintendent of all of the districts that selected him
